DWD
On a National level the most important partner external to PANDOWAE is the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst, DWD). On the one hand, PANDOWAE researchers will be using models (GME, COSMO) that were developed and are run operationally at DWD. These models are made available to the research community and the feedback from DWD scientists responsible for these models is extremely valuable to PANDOWAE. On the other hand, as a German based and funded research group, it is important that DWD scientists have the opportunity to contribute to the planning and interpretation of the research and have direct access to the knowledge gained as a result of this research. The collaboration with DWD will be by the invitation of scientists from the relevant DWD-Departments to attend our PANDOWAE meetings. Also, scientists working on individual PANDOWAE projects will visit DWD in Offenbach as necessary to discuss details of their projects. The DWD provides PANDOWAE scientists with access to operational analyses and forecasts in addition to continuing to support the use of their models and tools as they do at present. Through this collaboration we will contribute to: achieving the aim of THORPEX1 that solutions to weather and forecast problems "will be accelerated through international collaboration among academic institutions, operational forecast centres, ...:".
