1st Young Scientists Winter School 15-17 December 2008, Karlsruhe, Germany

The “1st PANDOWAE Young Scientists Winter School” is organised by the PANDOWAE PhD students at the Institut für Meteorologie und Klimaforschung Universität Karlsruhe / Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (the future KIT). It will be held at the Faculty of Physics, University of Karlsruhe from 15 to 17 December 2008.

The idea of Young Scientists Winter/Summer Schools was born on the first PANDOWAE workshop, which was held in Höfen (Enz) from 9-11 June 2008. The Young Scientists Schools shall give more time and the opportunity to focus on the needs of PANDOWAE PhD students and PANDOWAE young PostDocs in a relaxed environment. Beside presenting the own work, the Young Scientists Schools enable us to discuss about analysis methods and used data, to improve presentation and writing skills, to find out about intersections of ones own work with the work of other PANDOWAE projects, and so to initiate collaborations at PhD/PostDoc level. Further lectures held by senior scientists of the host institute help to broaden the knowledge on PANDOWAE relevant topics. The Young Scientist Schools will take place every 6 months and the organisation will rotate between the PANDOWAE partners.

We are very grateful for financial support by the Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS)1 of the KIT.
