THORPEX European Regional Meeting



Karlsruhe, Germany, 24-27 May 2011




The aim of this meeting is to review progress in European THORPEX research, to strengthen existing collaborations and initiate new collaborations within the European THORPEX community, to identify necessary revisions to the THORPEX European Plan, and to discuss European involvement within new THORPEX initiatives. Themes are

  • PDP (Predictability and Dynamical Processes)
  • DAOS (Data Assimilation and Observing Strategies)
  • SERA (Societal Economic Research Applications)
  • TIGGE (THORPEX Interactive Grand Global Ensemble)
  • Field Programs (e.g. IPY-THORPEX, T-PARC, T-NAWDEX, Concordiasi, HYMEX)

Location: Gartensaal of the "Badisches Landesmuseum" at Schloss Karlsruhe in the centre of Karlsruhe, adjacent to the South Campus of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Karlsruhe is easy to reach by train from many European destinations. There is an hourly train service to Frankfurt Airport.


Travel Awards: The European Meteorological Society has offered a Young Scientist Travel Award which will be presented at the meeting.

Outdoor Activity:

On Thursday we will make a trip to the "Altes Schloss Hohenbaden".
From there, one can make a round walk around the 'Battertfelsen' (a beautiful rock formation). At the restaurant there we will have dinner.
